Cannabidiol or CBD for short, belongs to the so-called cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are active substances contained in hemp plants. Cannabidiol is obtained from the female cannabis plant but is not psychoactive and therefore legal.
Where does the oil come from?
The oil is produced from the seeds of the hemp plant. These seeds do not contain large amounts of THCand therefore have no psychoactive effect.
The oil produced from this also contains no psychoactive substances.
A gentle harvest is necessary to obtain a high quality oil. The seeds are mechanically peeled and then pressed in an oil mill.
It is important that this is done by cold pressing so that the valuable ingredients of the hemp are not damaged or even destroyed by the heat. When the process is complete, the oil should be sealed airtight and stored in a dark and refrigerated place.
After that the shelf life is at least 60 weeks.
The oil provides the body with important vitamins such as vitamin E, vitamin B1 and vitamin B2. Vitamin B1 is important for the nervous system, vitamin B2 is needed for numerous metabolic processes.
The oil also contains valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6, and is also rich in minerals such as potassium (responsible for regulating the water balance), magnesium, iron, calcium, zinc (for a strong immune system) and sodium.
Therefore, the balanced oil can also be used in case of deficiency symptoms to supply the body with the missing substances.
What can hemp oil help against and for whom is it suitable?
The oil is currently being tested for chronic pain, high blood pressure, migraine, cramps and inflammation.
Many people suffer from severe headaches, often accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light and general discomfort. When migraine can no longer be treated, many pain patients turn to an alternative treatment and test the hemp oil.
The headache and its associated symptoms should disappear within 10 to 20 minutes. The situation is similar with other diseases. According to some experience reports, the oil is even tested for skin cancer.
Patients for whom classical treatment with chemical drugs could not improve or alleviate the pain may find an alternative treatment with CBD oil helpful.
Due to the purely vegetable ingredients of the liquid, it is much gentler and more tolerable for the body. Due to the limited experience on this subject, the oil is not covered by the health insurance fund and must therefore be paid for itself.
Even if it is a legal substance, caution should be exercised when using the oil by pregnant women and children. Due to the little research on humans, no clear answer can be given as to whether and to what extent the oil can damage the (unborn) child.
In summary, here is a list of some of the diseases for which CBD is currently being tested:
- Rheumatism and arthritis,
- to high blood pressure,
- Sleep disorders,
- Diabetes and
There are only a few German studies on alternative therapy with hemp oil instead of the usual pain therapy.
In March 2015, however, the Medicines Commission of the German Medical Association (AkdÄ)published an overview of studies on the therapeutic efficacy of cannabinoids. This states that chronic pain would have shown a majority of positive effects.
A therapy trial for chronic and in particular neuropathic pain is therefore justified with the aforementioned substances if other therapy strategies remain unsuccessful.
Another study also shows that cannabinoids are effective against chronic pain, such as multiple sclerosis. Allegedly, cannabis reduced pain in 52% of test subjects.
In addition, other small studies have shown that cannabinoids may also be effective against pain caused by other causes such as tumour pain or rheumatism.
The oil is free of psychoactive substances due to its production from the seeds of the cannabis plant and can be taken almost without hesitation. The reported side effects do not occur frequently. The oil contains important minerals, vitamins and fatty acids.
CBD oil can be used as an alternative in pain therapy. If taken correctly, it can help with various illnesses and improve the patient's quality of life.
The above studies show that cannabidiol can be justified in chronic pain. They advocate treatment with the active ingredient in alternative medicine if other therapeutic strategies have failed or do not alleviate the pain.
